What is Tang Soo Do?

Tang Soo Do is a South Korean martial art created by Grand Master Hwang Kee in 1945. It is a traditional style of martial arts focusing on kicking, firms and discipline. 

What is the Traditional Tang Soo Do Federation?

TTF was set up by Master John Trudgill on March 1st 2006. Master Trudgill is one of the most senior Tang Soo Do practitioners in the United Kingdom and is respected all around the world for his contributions to Tang Soo Do. The TTF has classes all across South Wales, in Holland, Texas, Califronia and in Canada. 

What is GTSD?

GTSD is family friendly Martial Arts club, set up by Master Kyle Thomas March 1st 2011. GTSD is part of the Traditional Tang Soo Do Federation. GTSD has presented 35 students in 11 years to first degree black belt or higher, along with our in class achievements, our competition pedigree is high with 11 world titles, 5 National team members, 6 grand champion titles winners, and over 100 UK, international, and national champions. 

How many competitions do you do a year?

On average we have 4 UK competitions – Cardiff, Neath, Rugby, and London. We also attend invitational events in Manchester, Ireland, Scotland and Bristol. and finally we try to attend 1 traveling competition each year held in either America or Holland. 

Are competitions compulsory?

COMPETITIONS ARE NOT COMPULSORY, we do encourage each student to attend but we have a multitude of active students who only compete once a year

When do I get my suit?

After you have signed your insurance information, we will size you up and fit you with your VERY OWN new Tang Soo Do dobok. 

On average how long will it take someone to get their black belt?

The average person does not get their black belt. GTSD has a storied history of ensuring it’s students are of the highest quality you don’t get given a black belt because you have attended classes, you have to EARN your black belt!

When do we get sparring gear?

Our sparring gear is available from your instructor once you have been given your dobok. 

When are gradings?

Tigers gradings are every 2 months from the last Saturday in January onwards. Dragons and adults gradings are depending on rank, your instructor will be able to inform you when your next test is.
