About Us

Gwent Tang Soo Do has been running for over 11 years. We treat every single member who walks through our doors like a family member we’ve known for years.

OUR CORE VALUES

R

Education & Discipline

Putting martial arts education alongside school education is very important to us. At the end of the day, there is more to martial arts than punching and kicking. We also believe that being consistent is key to ensuring the best discipline while also being fair.

R

Respect

it’s very cliché but respect is a two-way street; our senior ranks will always show our junior ranks the respect they would like to receive without demanding that the juniors return that respect.

R

Confidence

If a student lacks confidence we will build it. If a student has lost it, we will find it, and if a student already has it, then we will fan the flames and, at the same time, ensure the confidence is shown in a strong and respectful way.

GTSD INSTRUCTOR – MASTER THOMAS

Master Thomas began training in 2003 aged 15 in Neath, achieving his first degree black belt in 2007 and then his instructors certification in 2008.

After attending university of Wales for 3 years he went on to open up his first class in 2011.

In early 2012 a second class was opened in 2012 and then in 2016 a third class in Cwmbran.

After the lock down was lifted in 2021 all classes moved to one of the biggest full time centres in South Wales.

Since the first class in 2011 Master Thomas has promoted 35 students to their first degree black belt and above.
GTSD has also seen 15 students win World titles, 7 students win grand champion titles, and many UK, international and national titles.

Master Thomas has won the prestigious “Traditional Tang Soo Instructor of the Year” not once but twice. First in 2014 and then again in 2019, and is currently the only instructor to do so.
